The 4th Conference of Sirte Doctors at Home and Abroad opened this morning in the late Dr. Abdulqader Al-Ammari Hall. Organized by Ibn Sina Hospital under the slogan "Vision – Cooperation – Achievement", with the support of the National Development Agency and Gamma Medical, Alpha and Al-Sada Medical companies, the conference runs on 8–9 January and aims to improve health services in Sirte and Libya and to connect Sirte's doctors at home with those abroad.
The opening session was attended by the Minister of Health of the Libyan Government, Dr. Othman Abduljalil; the hospital's Director General, Dr. Ali Eljarroshi, and his deputy, Dr. Jadallah Diryag; the Mayor of Sirte, Mukhtar Al-Madani; the chair of the hospital's Scientific Committee, Dr. Fathi Al-Kaseh; the chair of the conference Scientific Committee, Prof. Al-Refai Amtair; heads and members of medical councils and the Social Council of Sirte Tribes; heads of departments, consultants and specialists at the hospital; participants from various Libyan cities and from abroad; and directors of hospitals, health centres, sectors and institutions in Sirte.
The conference president and hospital Director General, Dr. Ali Eljarroshi, welcomed the Minister of Health, the guests and participants from Sirte and from brotherly countries, wishing them success in the work of the conference, which is held every year to serve the people of the city and to exchange experience and knowledge between doctors in all specialties. He thanked the General Command for its unlimited support in raising the standard of the hospital's services, and the National Development Agency for supporting the conference.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Othman, expressed his pleasure at attending and congratulated Sirte and its people on holding such a gathering, which shows their unity and their determination to raise the standing of a city that suffered greatly in recent years. He said the progress the hospital has made over the past two years shows its young management's determination to raise the standard of its services, and praised the Urology Department, led by Dr. Omran Bourgiga, for performing major operations — notably a recent successful operation on a woman from Tripoli — and thanked everyone involved in the conference.
The chair of the preparatory committee, Dr. Fathi Al-Kaseh, welcomed participants and wished them success in the workshops and lectures offered in all specialties to exchange experience between doctors at home and abroad.
The chair of the Scientific Committee, Prof. Al-Refai Amtair, explained that the conference focuses on workshops in various specialties, including advanced live surgery, and expressed his hope that the conference would be a building block in developing medical staff. He thanked all committee members and participants.
The Mayor of Sirte welcomed the participants in a conference that faced challenges when it was first launched years ago, noting that in the reconstruction and development Sirte is witnessing, Ibn Sina Hospital is a model of progress. On behalf of the city he thanked the General Command for the major changes in all sectors, and Sirte's doctors at home and abroad for standing with the people of their city.
Speaking on behalf of participants from outside Libya, Dr. Tarek Barakat expressed his pleasure at taking part and wished the conference success.
The opening session included video presentations documenting the hospital's activities and achievements made possible by the support of the General Command of the Armed Forces and the National Development Agency to raise the level of medical services for Sirte and the surrounding towns and areas.
